Proposition 8

Gay marriage advocates in California (and elsewhere) are up in arms because supporters of proposition 8 are "trying to take away their right to marry". Gay marriage advocates argue that they have the "right" to marriage just like everyone else. They say that anyone who votes yes on proposition 8 is intolerant, and that proposition 8 "denies homosexuals on of their most basic freedoms".

Here's what's wrong with their argument:

MARRIAGE IS A PRIVILEGE, NOT A RIGHT. If everyone has the right to be married, why limit marriage to just heterosexuals and homosexuals? What about a father who has the "right" to marry his daughter, or a mother who has the "right" to marry her two sons? In other words, just because two people love each other, doesn't mean they have the "right" to be married. (Or overthrow the people's vote in 2000 to get their way.)

For millions of years, marriage has been defined as one man and one woman. It's what works. It's what's best for our society.

Protect marriage and vote yes on proposition 8.
