False Alarm

So, Debbie called us at 11:30 last night to say Rylie was on her way to the hospital for her transplant! The surgery would start at 8 a.m. the next morning. Rylie had to go to the hospital last night at about 10 to have blood work and stuff done before the surgery. We found out today that they were testing until like 4 a.m. so she didn't get much sleep. Poor thing!

Garrit didn't really sleep either. We were both VERY excited, nervous, and heartsick. The surgery is SO bitter sweet - someone will die so Rylie can live. This morning as we drove up to the hospital I felt like a vulture. We prayed for the donor and his/her family but we also prayed that Ry would get the liver. It was wierd.

When I talked to Sarah about the whole situation, she compared it to Christ's atonement. Funny I never thought of it that way.

But after all the worrying and praying, when we got to the hospital this morning we were just in time to hear Rylie's primary surgeon say that the donor's liver wasn't quite right and they would wait for another. About an hour later, they sent Rylie home. Randy, Amie and Rylie have been through a lot. We really hope this doesn't happen again. I guess all we can do is pray for Ry and her family. She needs a liver SOON!

On a happier note, Emily and Todd are here visiting! They'll be here until tomorrow. It has been so fun to have company, especially company that will watch our little animal. (Garrit and I got to go on a DATE last night... Thanks, Em!)

Yeah, Drew is a WILD MAN. As I'm typing this, he's climbing all over me, pulling my hair, and biting! Yesterday, we got some funny pictures of him trying to eat his way though his "cage". Here they are:

And Garrit's new foo man chu:

The End.

Leah, thanks so much to you and Garrit for coming up to the hospital, it means so much to have your support! I know what you mean about feeling like a vulture...that night sitting at the hospital, I couldn't help thinking about the other family...losing a loved one, it is so bittersweet. Hopefully next time it is meant to be. I love the blog and Drew is the cutest! ~ Amie

Does Garrit do Drews hair? It looks very similar to some of Garrits hairstyles - SO CUTE! I can't believe how big he is getting (Drew, not Garrit)
