Oily Hair?
About a week ago I got a hair cut.
And (of course) my hairdresser cut it WAAYY too short. (Why do they always do that?)
Anyway, as I was leaving the salon she said my hair would be donated to clean up the oil spill off the Gulf Coast... which made me feel a teensy bit better about loosing so much hair.
But today as I brushed through my greasy locks I realized donating my hair probably didn't help the oil spill. It may have made the Gulf Coast dirtier.
I would like to formally apologize to all Gulf Coast residents.
I'm sorry.
If you have dry, brittle hair, please donate your locks to help clean up the Gulf Coast. You can find more information about donating hair here.
(Of course I am joking about the dry hair. You can donate your hair even if it's oily:)
Please donate!

Vacay!
It's been a month since Garrit graduated and... still no job.
We're hoping he'll get something soon (or he'll go back to school and get his PhD.)
But in the mean time... we're trying to have fun and taking advantage of the time off.
Here are some pics of our most recent vacations! (For the grandmas and grandpas:)

Thanks, Trib
I don't usually read the Salt Lake Tribune. I have it delivered to my house on Sunday... but just for the coupons. When I pick it up on Sunday morning, I take the coupons out of it and throw the thing straight into the recycle bin.
Because that's where it belongs.
The articles in it are garbage.
For example...
There was an article today on the front page titled "Coming Out... Fitting In".
You may have seen it.
In the article the author, Rosemary Winters, recounts the sob stories of local teenagers who have "come out of the closet" despite the overwhelming opposition of parents and peers. The article blatantly encourages parents to foster their teens' homosexual tendencies and refers parents to resources such as the "Utah Pride Center" and "Parents, Families, and Friends of Lesbians and Gays" for help with their gender-confused teenagers.
What?
Never mind that the American College of Pediatricians recently advised school superintendents (and teachers and parents) on their website www.factsaboutyouth.com not to affirm students "gay" or "trans-gender" tendencies.
In a letter to schools, the College stated:
"Rigorous studies demonstrate that most adolescents who initially experience same-sex attraction, or are sexually confused, no longer experience such attractions by age 25. In one study, as many as 26% of 12-year-olds reported being uncertain of their sexual orientation1, yet only 2-3% of adults actually identify themselves as homosexual.2 Therefore, the majority of sexually-questioning youth ultimately adopt a heterosexual identity.
Even children with Gender Identity Disorder (when a child desires to be the opposite sex) will typically lose this desire by puberty, if the behavior is not reinforced.3 Researchers, Zucker and Bradley, also maintain that when parents or others allow or encourage a child to behave and be treated as the opposite sex, the confusion is reinforced and the child is conditioned for a life of unnecessary pain and suffering. Even when motivated by noble intentions, schools can ironically play a detrimental role if they reinforce this disorder.
In light of these facts, it is clear that if school personnel encourage students to “come out as gay” and be “affirmed,” there is a serious risk of erroneously labeling students (who may merely be experiencing transient sexual confusion and/or engaging in sexual experimentation). Premature labeling may then lead some adolescents into harmful homosexual behaviors that they otherwise would not pursue."
Of course you should love your kids. No. Matter. What. Of course you should express your love. Of course you should encourage them to develop their individual identities. But just because your teenage kid is experimenting with their sexuality doesn't mean they're gay. Parents should never encourage children to explore gay tendencies.
Once again, the Trib has exploited local families and misguided the public; spinning an emotional story to foster their liberal agenda.
Thanks, Trib

What's a Girl to Do?
I.want.to.move.to.California.
A lot.
I don't mind the crazy people.
I don't mind the traffic.
And I don't mind downsizing.
I want to be near Mommy and Dad.
I want the sun.
And I want the beach.

And I want Trader Joes.
But... Alas...
My husband loves it here.
And there are no jobs there.
So...
We'll just keep visiting every 6 weeks.
You don't mind, do you Mom???

My mother taught me how to pray.
I don't know how she taught me or when... but I'm so glad she did.
I pray out loud when I'm at home and in my head when I'm away.
When I'm home my prayers are usually something like,
"Dear Heavenly Father, PUH-LEASE help me to be patient with my children!!!"
OR...
"PUH-LEASE help me to make it through today!!!"
OR...
"PUH-LEASE HELP ME TO NOT GO CRAZY!!!"
(Yes, I am a frazzled, stressed out mommy.)
Though I pray in front of him all the time, I didn't think Drew really knew or understood what I was doing... until the other day.
I put him in his room and shut the door because he was being naughty.
He started to cry.
I went into my room to cool off and chill out a bit.
And then I heard his little voice pleading,
"Dear Heavenly Father, PUH-LEASE help Mommy to not be angry at me."
My heart melted.
I went back into his room and gave him a big hug and a kiss.
I'm glad he knows how to pray too.
